Our mission / brief
If you’re familiar with the world of market research, you may well have come across Foresight Factory, or at least one of their publications/papers. Their core proposition is not dissimilar to the likes of Mintel or TNS Global, although FF’s distinguishing features include future trends and their quarterly physical events.
Working with the board and key team members at Foresight Factory we were asked to help lead the process of moving their industry leading trends data and analysis onto a custom built platform. The goals were to create a first class editing and publication application for the development of trends analysis content natively online, and, to deliver world class search and content discovery services to their subscribers.
We ran a number of UX workshops with internal users and Foresight Factory clients to better understand user goals and journeys as well as content hierarchies and taxonomies used to categorise and find information across a large data set. We then set about creating a prototype search interface and tested this with users recruited from matching backgrounds to the main Foresight Factory client profiles.
We used an iterative process as we worked through the UX for other aspects of the platform including content creation, subscriptions management, user sign up and purchase. We also tested interfaces with marketing touch points before building out further elements of the UI and back-end functionality.
Taking a modular approach to the architecture we built out a robust and scalable platform to handle the large volume of content and data that Foresight Factory deliver to their users.
The new platform enables subscribers to access rich content, data analysis and insights across 50+ industry sectors. Using the ElasticSearch stack and some custom personalisation algorithms we have created a fast search experience with content recommendations aligned with subscribers profiles and search habits. Users can curate and share this content with other users of the system as well as download curated content as powerpoint decks.
Internal teams are able to create content natively as HTML5 as well as batch import existing powerpoint content improving the speed with which content can be created, categorised and published.
We developed a bespoke CMS to support the internal teams at Foresight Factory in their daily content creation. The platform subscription model has been built to support both enterprise and pay as you go licensing models. We have used the latest in search technology to enable blisteringly fast and scalable data retrieval. A number of external APIs allow clients to interrogate and consume data and content from the platform within their own internal tools.
The platform also supports Single Sign On for enterprise integrations and has an integrated payment gateway for monthly subscriptions targeted at individuals and small teams.
The platform is now used by more than 5000 users across 450+ clients with over 25,000 items of active content and a 190% increase in content views. Customer retention has increased by 30% since the release of the new platform as has the volume of content being downloaded.
